Shaughn and his friends, previously known as La Boule Rose, the club that plays in Jamison Square - downtown Portland OR - have a new name: Portland Bouligans, and a new website.

The "ink" is hardly dry on my post about Seattle, and the virtues of neighborhood petanque (as in how lovely it is that folks can walk to their playground), and here comes the Northwest Examiner (Portland, OR) with an article about La Boule Rose in Jamison Square. The same basic ingredients.

People walk by, get intrigued, one of the players explains the game and bingo. Shaughn and his friends will probably put a boule in your hand even before you had the time to ask a question!
One extra feature of Jamison Square: several terraces to walk to for a drink or something to eat.

Thanks to the reporter for mentioning - twice - that petanque boules are hollow.

New West Coast petanque website

Petanque Talk is Nathan Doster's latest contribution to petanque development in the Western States. Nathan doesn't mind driving hours & hours to catch a game, and has visited almost all of the 17 clubs, from San Diego, CA to Seattle WA.

New president at FPUSA

Following the recent board elections, Joe Martin will take over the presidency from John Rolland.
Joe founded the Portland Petanque Club from scratch in 2001 and it has grown continuously ever since, no doubt thanks to his tireless efforts to welcome new players.

Oregon overall is among the fastest growing "petanque states" in the country. With a Portland president to boot, it will probably go even faster!

Petanque 100 in Portland, OR

Portland Petanque Club combined the Petanque 100 celebration with their annual Webfoot tournament.
25 players of which some played for 8 hours into the finals.

By the way, PPC is one of the very few clubs in the country that has a real clubhouse, with cooking facilities and an outdoor terrace!

Portland Petanque Club in action

Portland Petanque Club is gearing up full steam for the World Championship Qualifier Tournament on July 21 & 22.
First they topped up part of their terrain with fresh crushed rock and grit. With lots of input from club members.


Then they had a tree planting day, with tremendous help from the Portland Parks & Recreations Bureau. There will be shade at PPC in the future.
By the way, the lawn bowling facilities which PPC partially shares with the Portland Lawn Bowling Club were originally constructed in 1945!
PPC was founded only in 2001, but they're developing very fast, with now around 60 members.
