Petanque in Motown

Jeff did an amazing job organizing the first Hard Rock Open in Detroit. Everything was prepared in minute detail for the 20 teams present, even multicolor target balls.
The few morning showers didn't spoil the fun, and were rapidly forgotten once the sun appeared after lunch.
The surprise of the day were Pat & Tim who work right at Cadillac Square, recently joined Jeff for his daily lunch petanque sessions and made it all the way to the finals where they did not lose too badly against powerhouse Mamary (Philly) and Ziggy (Chicago).

A special mention for Dan & his friends from Chicago who braved 11 hrs of heavy traffic ( instead of the usual 4!) to make it to Detroit. Hats off.

It was a great, fun day. As usual, cause for lots of new friendships.

Congratulations to Jeff on what appears to have been a hugely successful tournament. Jeff, have you ever considered posting a "How-to" regarding the running of a tournament? I know I would find it very helpful. I'm particularly interested in your ranking system and how you are able to be flexible when the number of teams changes at the last minute. Wish I could have joined Philippe and Bob in making the trip up from North Carolina. Maybe next time!

Send me an e-mail and I'd be happy to respond with how I put together this tournament. But know that the results in this tournament came from the hard work and good ideas that I've used from other great tournaments in the past, especially those of Dan Danielson's club over in Chicago; and Philippe's incredible Miami events; as well as those of Christophe over in his Brooklyn tournaments.
