Petanque in Tallahassee, Florida

Our friends of Mon Père et Moi restaurant sent us this photo report of one of their weekly
Friday happy hour petanque parties.
The pictures need no comments at all. Pierre and his friends know how to have fun.
The T-shirt is a classic.

If only there were more places like that where you can go certain days of the week knowing you will meet petanque buddies. Great job, Pierre!

Aiken, South Carolina

This is the beautiful logo for the new petanque club in South Carolina:
the Atomic Boule Club aka ABC. Click on it for details.

Philippe Richard, one of the gangmakers of the club asks us to invite all petanque players in the area (and that includes Charleston, Columbia and Augusta GA) to join in for a "very friendly" tournament on Sunday May 7 at the Odell Weeks Activity Center as from 2 pm.

Beginners or champions, everyone is welcome.
Do bring food and drinks for your party because we all know petanque can make you hungry and thirsty!
No boules, no problem. The ABC people have plenty to lend so everyone can play.

Please confirm your presence at least by May 5.
Contact: atomicbouleclub@hotmail.com

If they play as well as they design logos, South Carolina will be another state to reckon with!

Petanque at the Biltmore

The Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables, Florida is certainly one of the most beautiful hotels in this country. With 276 opulent rooms, a championship golf course, the largest hotel swimming pool in the nation, spa, wine & cigar club, ... the works.
And last but not least: a petanque court, recently refurbished.

We tried it out with Chuck from L.A. and Pierre from Vermont who were visiting this week.
The court itself is a bit too soft & sandy (which will no doubt be fixed) for our taste, but the setting is gorgeous. Right behind the pool bar, alongside the golf course.

Pierre won and according to Provencal tradition (which we always bring up when we lose) paid drinks at the appropriately called "Boules Bar". A nice place to hang out, with very friendly service.

Some of you may remember that we took Marco Foyot there for a demonstration in 2001, which got washed out completely due to torrential rain. And so did we...

Desert petanque

Just saw this on the blog of a German poet.

Totally unrelated to petanque, but the photo is nice, isn't it?

National Triples - April 8 & 9

South Florida Petanque Club will be hosting the National Triples Tournament for FPUSA members next weekend. If you're in the area, go and have a look!

For details and directions:
SFPC website

The folks at SFPC always eat well, thanks to an array of members who are chefs, active or retired.
Among them Jean Vergnes, at one time chef and co-owner of Le Cirque, New York's landmark restaurant. Incidentally he participated in the creation of "pasta primavera". Here's the recipe.
Jean has been happily married - for 48 years - to Pauline, one of the 'live wires' at the club, always ready for a joke.

We will have pictures of the tournament next week.

We were happy to sponsor their latest tournament with a couple of gift certificates.

Anytime you organize an open tournament or an open door petanque day, send us a note. If our budget permits we'll do our best to help you!
