Petanque at the Biltmore

The Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables, Florida is certainly one of the most beautiful hotels in this country. With 276 opulent rooms, a championship golf course, the largest hotel swimming pool in the nation, spa, wine & cigar club, ... the works.
And last but not least: a petanque court, recently refurbished.

We tried it out with Chuck from L.A. and Pierre from Vermont who were visiting this week.
The court itself is a bit too soft & sandy (which will no doubt be fixed) for our taste, but the setting is gorgeous. Right behind the pool bar, alongside the golf course.

Pierre won and according to Provencal tradition (which we always bring up when we lose) paid drinks at the appropriately called "Boules Bar". A nice place to hang out, with very friendly service.

Some of you may remember that we took Marco Foyot there for a demonstration in 2001, which got washed out completely due to torrential rain. And so did we...

The Biltmore is the absolute best. I wonder why only 1 Petanque Court? Surely there's room for 2 (possibly 3). But the idea that the bar is right next to it is ideal... if only more bars/hotels built these courts and supplied boules/instruction...

I know we had the Nationals Triples this weekend but I can't believe I missed my Friend Chuck down here in Miami.
