To some of our overseas readers (we notice there are more and more -- thanks for visiting) this may sound strange:anytime we organize an event in a public place, we need to hire off duty police and paramedics.
Fortunately, petanque being peaceful and safe, they never have to get into action. Needless to say, they all know petanque inside out by the time the event is finished.
